GreenWay Oxon

We are a group of North Oxford Golf Club members campaigning against the possible closure of our club and the impact that will have on the Oxford Green Belt. The course lies on a critical part of the Green Belt. Together with the land to the east of the Oxford Road it forms a “green way” between the built up areas of Oxford and Kidlington.

The Club is in a beautiful parkland, Green Belt setting that has provided wonderful recreational opportunities for tens of thousands of local residents of all ages over many years. It is a community resource, managed and maintained by those who use the provision.

Many would argue, as the video footage below shows, that this is one of the jewels in the crown that Cherwell District Council should serve to protect. However, this historic Club has been allocated for development (site 6b) in the Cherwell Partial Review of the Local Plan.

The threat of closure comes from the course identified by Cherwell District Council as suitable for house building within their larger plans for building 4,400 houses around Kidlington, Gosford, Yarnton and Begbroke.

It is difficult to believe that the Oxford University Colleges who own the land, together with Cherwell District Council and the Planning Inspector could even imagine demolishing a thriving, irreplaceable,   much loved community resource in favour of housing development.
